Dolly Parton was my neighbor on Thrasher Avenue in Los Angeles, California from 1985 to 1990. She bought the home at 9196 Thrasher which at that time was a two story, 3 beds, 3.5 baths with a pool and jacuzzi. It had amazing city, mountain views and was located at the end of a cul--de-sac. She bought the home in the name of her and her husband's name, no holding company. Image above is ad from 1995. Below is the ad which ran right before she bought the home in 1985. She remodeled the interior and added a deck. Below is the permit.
She first put it on the market in 1988. I think there wasn't enough privacy or maybe she just didn't use it enough. I went to the open house. She'd redone the interior in all pastels like pastel peach, pink and maybe even blue. It was very pretty. She had little lawn ornament animals in a front yard area. Below is a 1988 ad from June Scott real estate agent to the stars.
One night around 1989 or so my other neighbor's house was on fire. Her name was Inga Burke an older woman from Germany. Late at night Dolly and Dean were driving down the street to go home. They saw Inga's garage on fire and banged on her door to wake her up. Inga later told me that she thought it was a Dolly Parton impersonator so she didn't open the door. Then Inga smelled smoke. Thankfully Dolly and Dean had already called the fire department who came and put out the fire. Thank god they did because there were trees all over that property. The house didn't burn but the garage and Inga's car were totalled.
I saw Dolly and Dean a few times driving up and down the street. They were always very nice. They bought the house for $750,000 December 1985 and sold it for $1,200,000 March 1990.
