I attended the Los Angeles Business Journal State of Business Readiness breakfast October 30, 2026 at the Sheraton Hotel in Universal City, Los Angeles, California. Speakers: Janice L. Miller, Bill Koschak, Christina Lewis, Esq., Joel Montminy, Havell Rodrigues, Aza Ghazaryan, MBA, CPA, Jerome Fogel, Steven Geller, Ronald Munman, Joe Seetoo, CFA®, CFP®, CEPA® and Jon Slusser. The meeting was about selling your business. Some comments. Getting your business ready to sell is just like getting your house ready to sell. It’s better to take care of any issues before you sell your business because the buyer is sure to find all the skeletons. Everyone underestimates the cost and effort involved in selling a business while over estimating its value. Some who sell end up with seller’s remorse because they personally identified with their business and its people. AI isn’t always right. It’s just a tool. Sometimes you need human wisdom and experience. You need to spend money to make money so hire good consultants and experts. Hire an appraiser before you decided to sell your business or assets. You need to have an estate plan in case you die. If you don’t, the state will impose their plan on you which you don’t want. If you don’t name someone to take over your business, the state will choose one and it could be an inexperienced spouse. The best business is a business that runs itself and doesn’t need you every day. Money makes people weird. Stay calm. #marycummins #realestateappraiser #losangeles
