How Mayor Karen Bass Cleared Homeless RV Camp. She Banned All Street Parking. Mary Cummins

April 2025 Mayor Karen Bass announced that she cleared an RV homeless camp in front of Angelus Rosedale Cemetery at 1831 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, California. I live near there and am very familiar with this encampment. The Mayor insisted they would not return but I highly doubted that. They've cleaned it many times only for them only to instantly return.

Today May 3, 2025 I thought I'd drive by and see it full of RVs again. There were no RVs at all or even cars. I then realized that the city turned the entire long street into a no parking tow away red zone. Now the cemetery and all the stores on that street lost their parking. They are now double parking on the other side and parking in the center divider. Now it's a traffic and safety issue. 

Removing all street parking is not the solution to homelessness. They could have only disallowed RV parking but maybe the city thought they'd be sued for discrimination. Not only that but people were living in trucks, vans, buses which aren't RVs. There needs to be a better solution that doesn't remove all the street parking. All the 100 plus year old homes and stores in this area have no off street parking. The 100 plus year old cemetery barely has any parking which is totally full on the weekends. It's still possible the tents may return.
